Emma’s sporting journey started almost as soon as she could walk, from swimming lessons as a baby to playing hockey, tennis, and cricket throughout her childhood. Fifteen years later, she’s still immersed in the sports she loves, playing, coaching, running club social media, and serving on committees. Emma thrives on being involved at every level, whether it’s grassroots or regional representative teams, bringing passion and energy to every role.
Passion and Inspiration
Emma’s love for sport is deeply rooted in family and community. “My sporting friends, community and family have positively shaped my journey in sport. They are my biggest and loudest supporters, on and off the field,” she says. Her involvement has shaped her resilience, work ethic, and leadership style, inspiring others around her to grow alongside her.
Standout Moments
Emma cherishes moments where growth meets challenge. One highlight was coaching a junior hockey team with mixed experience levels. Through collaboration, strategy changes, and support, the team progressed from struggling to semi-finalists and ultimately winning the grand final in a shoot-out. “Not only did the girls improve, but we coaches improved along the way as a result of coaching them,” Emma reflects.

Leadership in Action
Leadership for Emma is about guidance, adaptability, and growth. From captaining hockey and cricket teams to coaching multiple sports, she has learned the importance of risk-taking, patience, and stepping back when needed. “Sometimes it is necessary to make changes and take risks to succeed. Not every season goes as planned, and that’s okay, it doesn’t make you a bad player or coach,” she says.
Empowered to Lead Program
Emma joined the Empowered to Lead program seeking personal and professional growth. “The experience was better than I ever could have anticipated,” she shares. She valued the opportunity to connect with like-minded women, participate in important discussions, and feel part of a community that made her feel seen, heard, and valued. Tools like above and below the line thinking have helped Emma manage her mindset and maintain focus.
Looking Ahead
Graduating with a Bachelor of Business, majoring in sports management, Emma plans to progress in her role at QLDCricket while continuing representative coaching in hockey and working toward her Level Two accreditation. She aims to use her leadership skills and DISC profile knowledge to keep growing as a leader, supporting the next generation of athletes and coaches.
